But to some people, the song isn’t the only part of the equation — it’s the genre. The image. The story. The video. In honor of all things musical, today’s Friday Five is all about music videos… not the angst-ridden ones or the strange short films of Lady Gaga, but the cutesy ones with happy endings. As your week comes to a close, let these songs and their accompanying music videos bring a smile to your face! : )
I apologize in advance for the ones that loaded really slowly from Vevo. Try not to let the long buffer time discourage you!
The Friday Five: Cutest Music Videos
1. You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift
Okay, so it’s the cliche story of Boy Falls For Best Friend/Girl Next Door, full of the typical high school archetypes and everything in between. And maybe the message might not be delivered so clearly — you have to show up in a gorgeous dress before your crush will leave his girlfriend for you? — but I don’t even care. It’s so cute! And while it may not be realistic, what girl wouldn’t consider this her dream prom night?

2. I’m a Believer by Smash Mouth
This one is full of not-so-subtle Shrek references, as Steve from Smash Mouth searches everywhere to find the pretty blonde girl he ran into at the very beginning of the video. Surprise twist ending… a cheesy video, but still a lot of fun.
*
3. The Middle by Jimmy Eat World
This song is all about being true to yourself and not succumbing to peer pressure… and the video does not disappoint! The video features a fully-clothed boy at a party full of people dancing in their underwear, but much like the first video, it has an adorable ending. (Yes, I know I’ve said “adorable” about eighty times in this post so far.)

4. Papa Don’t Preach by Madonna
Here we get to see the teenage girl from the song meet a very handsome 80’s bad boy who happens to love her. Meanwhile, she struggles with the notion of telling her father about her recent pregnancy. This, too, has a happy ending… one that actually evoked an “Awww” from me!
*
5. Through the Rain by Mariah Carey
This video actually tells the story of Mariah’s own background, and it gives the song a message even more beautiful than the one in its lyrics. I think I’m a sucker for love stories!
